WFAN.com’s Rich Coutinho had a chance to sit down with left-hander Johan Santana in Port St. Lucie to talk about his quest to start on Opening Day and get back to what he loves doing — pitching for the Mets.

Highlights of the conversation include:

  • Santana feels like his arm is rounding into shape and can not wait until he pitches in a game, which will be on Tuesday in Port St. Lucie.
  • He loves the makeup of this Mets team. Santana feels some of the young players have experience now and they are ready to take the next step.
  • Santana really missed pitching last year and being with the team on a daily basis.
  • The ace feels he could have a real impact on some of the younger players, especially the Mets’ young pitchers.
