Woman Found Fatally Stabbed In Lyndhurst Home; Neighbor Arrested

LYNDHURST, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – An arrest has been made in the death of a woman found fatally stabbed in her New Jersey home.

Officials said Stephen Baldino, 49, allegedly stabbed his neighbor, 59-year-old Lydja Mitchell, to death after getting into an argument in her Lyndhurst apartment Monday morning.

Police found Mitchell's lifeless and bloody body in her Page Avenue apartment around 5 p.m. Monday after a neighbor became concerned when the victim didn't answer her door.

Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said Mitchell was stabbed several times.

A knife was recovered at the scene.

Molinelli said evidence was found in Baldino's apartment linking him to the crime.

He said the suspect also took steps to conceal his involvement in the crime, including soaking clothing and footwear he is believed to have worn during the murder in bleach.

Baldino has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and hindering apprehension.

Baldino is being held on $2 million.
