Man Dies After Being Shot At Paterson House Party

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) -- Paterson police say a city man was fatally shot during a house party brawl that broke out after some uninvited guests were asked to leave.

Officers responded to the Summer Street home around 1:45 a.m. Sunday and found Sterling Hightower on the street. Hightower, who would have turned 27 on Monday, had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses said a verbal argument began when the uninvited party guests were asked to leave, and that turned into a brawl that spilled out to the street. One of the participants then pulled out a handgun and repeatedly shot Hightower.

No other injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made.

Authorities were searching Sunday afternoon for a "person of interest" in connection with the shooting.
