Woman Struck, Killed By Car In Central Islip

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY (CBSNewYork) - A woman was killed a short distance from the entrance to the Long Island Railroad Station in Central Islip on Tuesday when she was crossing the street, police say.

According to authorities, 55-year-old Juana Cabrera of Central Islip was crossing Lowell Avenue when 45-year-old Charles Wright, also of Central Islip, hit her with his Honda SUV.

Cabrera died at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where she was taken following the incident, and Wright was uninjured, police say.

The Suffolk County Police Department says that it's currently investigating the crash to uncover more details.
