    Dear Asa,

I have a scam that might be a good story for you.

I did a really dumb thing. I requested information about a 100 day loan on the Internet.

The form that popped up ask for a lot of information, which was logically, but then when you realized how much information you gave to them, it was unnerving.

They asked for Name, Address, phone numbers, E-mail address, and for a bank account number.

Well, I was dumb, but not totally stupid, I gave my home number, not my cell phone number, I gave my savings account number and not my checking account number.

I have been deluged with all kinds of offers for quick loans, but recently I have been receiving threatening phones call from people, who are foreign, who threaten me with lawsuits. They said that they transferred money into my account and then they tried to “pull the deposit back” and they could not, so they are suing me for the money plus damages. I checked with my bank and no funds were transferred in or out of my account. This is clearly a scam and they keep calling me for the money.

I was dumb, but not stupid. I protected myself and outside of these threatening calls, I have not suffered any loses, except had this happened to my mother or another elderly person, they might be scared into giving these scam artist money.

I think that you would do a great service to the elderly in our area to warn them of this scam and to not fall for it.

Please let me if you need anything further from me. I have “names” of these people and two different phone numbers that they left on my answering machine.

    Sincerely,

    Rocco Joseph Mazza
