Riverhead Foundation To Release Yearling Harbor Seal Back Into The Wild

HAMPTON BAYS, NY (CBSNewYork) -- The Riverhead Foundation is celebrating St. Patrick's Day with the release of Lucy, a female yearling harbor seal.

Lucy was rescued from Westhampton Beach last year but has now been given the all clear to be released back to her home under the Ponquogue Bridge in Hampton Bays.

Lucy will be released at noon on Saturday.

According to their website, the Riverhead Foundation is "dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of seals, sea turtles, whales, dolphins, and porpoises."

Last November, another young harbor seal was rescued off the coast of Montauk after being spotted by someone on the beach.

At the time, it appeared the seal may have been bitten by a shark.
