St. Patrick’s Cathedral Set For $175 Million Renovation

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP)St. Patrick’s Cathedral is embarking on a multi-million dollar renovation.

The $175 million facelift of the Fifth Avenue church is slated to begin at the end of April and last at least two years. The 2,200-seat white marble cathedral opened in 1879.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan is expected to announce the renovation Saturday.

The Post reported that scaffolding and netting will go up inside and outside the church.

The work will include replacing crumbling marble blocks and refitting stained-glass windows from the 1870’s. It will be done every day from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., stopping for daily Masses.

Funeral Masses for Babe Ruth and Robert F. Kennedy were held at St. Patrick’s. The cathedral gets more than 5.5 million visitors a year.

We all know that the faithful will be billed through the nose for this.

The church washed their hands of all medical facilities they owned and threw the whole mess in St.Vincent’s lap leaving them to pay all the bills for all of the other failing Catholic medical facilities in the Archdiocese wiping out what ever money they had saved forcing them to take huge loans to run all of these places .St.Vinny’s was not in bad finacial shape when it was a stand along facility.

Where’s the money coming from, you ask? The RCC has stashes of wealth centuries old for the elitist churches, but nothing for the neighborhood churches in need. The Vatican also has bundles of money to spend defending their multitude of sexual abuse cover-ups in the courts of law.

I guess that renovation money for the self glory of their religion comes
from we taxpayers who gave them millions of dollars to keep St.Vincents
hospital open which of course they closed, what happened to all that dough and
    who is watching their books?

Questioning the Church’s finances is a clear violation of the Doctrine of Infallibility.

It’s of no concern to me which famous person had a funeral there or how many people walk in and out of this tourist trap. My church needs a new parking lot and we scrounging around for nickels to repair it or begging the Archdiocese for funds. Not to mention there are churches in the area in dire need of new roofs, rennovations and parochial schools that needed some attention instead of beng closing. So if this money is coming from the Archdiocese itself, then it has some “splainin to do.”

Question: where’s the money for this coming from?
