NJ Towns Work Together To Prevent Car Break-Ins

WESTFIELD, NY (CBSNewYork) – Preventing a crime is as easy as locking your car.

WCBS 880’s Sean Adams On The Story

Thieves stole items from 22 cars in Westfield a few weeks ago. In every case, the doors were unlocked.

Some folks feel completely safe and at ease in the affluent town.

They don’t lock their doors.

In recent weeks, 18 more car break-ins happened in neighboring Cranford.

Police in both towns are teaming up to crack the case, but they are also asking residents to be smart, lock up, and don’t leave any valuables in the car.

A similar series of crimes occurred in affluent Wyckoff recently, and has that township’s police chief quite upset because the solution is so simple.
