Toomer: Time Running Out For Sanchez As Jets' Starting QB

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Amani Toomer has moved on from his war of words with former Giants teammate Jeremy Shockey.

Next target: Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.

Toomer met reporters at the NFL's new pop-up store on Monday. He pulled no punches about Gang Green's budding quarterback controversy, ignited by the team's acquisition of high-profile backup Tim Tebow.

"I don't see Sanchez being the starter for the entire season," Toomer said, according to the New York Daily News.

The former wide receiver insisted Sanchez, who regressed in his third year as a pro, is "not a great quarterback."

"I don't think it's a stretch to say that," Toomer said.

Toomer isn't a recent convert to Tebowmania. He's praised the ex-Broncos quarterback for performing under pressure -- and intense scrutiny.

Tebow stunned New York last season when he led his former team to a last-minute win in Week 11.

"There's something to be said about that," said Toomer. "I think the Jets realized that when it happened to them in Denver."
