Islanders Land North Dakota Star Brock Nelson

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The leading scorer for the University of North Dakota hockey team is turning pro.

Sophomore Brock Nelson, 20, has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the New York Islanders and will forgo his final two years of college eligibility. Terms were not disclosed by the team. He will start his pro career in the minors.

The 6-foot-4, 192-pound forward was a first-round draft pick of the Islanders in 2010, selected 30th overall. The Warroad, Minn., native led the Fighting Sioux this past season in goals with 28 and points with 47. He also led the WCHA in goals. He finishes his college career with 36 goals and 32 assists.
