Prosecutors: Cedar Grove Mother Charged With Assaulting 8-Week-Old Daughter

CEDAR GROVE, NJ (CBSNewYork) — Authorities say a Cedar Grove woman has been arrested on charges that she assaulted her 8-week-old baby girl.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office says 35-year-old Ania Marcinkiewicz is charged with aggravated assault and two counts of  endangering the welfare of a child.

Officials say sometime between March 22 and March 23, Marcinkiewicz allegedly assaulted the infant at their Cedar Grove home, leaving the girl with a fractured skull and other injuries.

Prosecutors say she then failed to take the baby for medical treatment.

Police arrested Marcinkiewicz on Wednesday. The baby was placed in the custody of the Division of Youth and Family Services.

Authorities say bail was set at $300,000 with the condition that she surrender her passport and has no contact with the child.

The investigation is still ongoing.
