Children Enjoy Sunny Weather, Outdoor Activities On Easter Weekend

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- From blessings to bunny hopping, children took full advantage of the pleasant weather Saturday, taking part in outdoor Easter events.

It's an annual tradition at the Queens Zoo in Flushing Meadows Park but a novelty to many wide-eyed kids. They kicked off Easter weekend Saturday petting real-life bunnies, weighing in at about 20 pounds.

"The bunnies were big. They were fluffy, cute," one little boy told CBS 2's Ann Mercogliano.

Over in Mount Vernon, kids took part in some intense Easter egg hunting. How intense? One little girl said she was as fast as the wind blowing.

The kids got an early start, and Mercogliano was left with an empty Easter egg basket, but "we're going to do better next year," one girl consoled.

The kick off to the Spring and Summer season at the Dekalb Market in Brooklyn was also Easter-themed.

Amid the arts and crafts, 3-year-old Mason didn't seem all that interested in talking about the holiday, but standing in front of the camera with a CBS 2 microphone, she may have found her career.

Kim Scott and daughter Isabella came out to support the more than 60 local vendors.

"This is not something you often see in Brooklyn," said Kim Scott of Cobble Hill. "Local artists, restauranteurs, this is something new."
