Pet Grooming With Jorge Bendersky

NEW YORK(CBS2) -- The arrival of spring means that pets and their owners will be spending a lot more time outside, and out there they will find dangerous insects and natural irritants.

CBS 2's Cindy Hsu recently some with Dog Groomer and Stylist Jorge Bendersky who gave her some advice on homemade remedies and perfumes.

Bendersky's remedies are perfect for keeping away insects like fleas, ticks and, sand flies, curing dry skin, and helping with anxiety.

You will need:

1 Spray Bottle

8oz of distilled water

1/2 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin

You can customize these perfumes with a  variety of ingredients.

To keep away fleas, ticks, and sand flies use lavender, eucalyptus, lemon, or any other citrus. Citrus and lavender are also good for dry skin, as are coconut and vanilla.

Tea tree oils work as a natural anti-inflammatory and insect repellent, but they can be toxic in large quantities.

Bendersky recommends avoiding scents like cinnamon, peppermint, and other hot oils because they may burn or irritate your pet's skin.
