NYPD: Well Dressed Sexual Predator Is Groping Women In New York

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A well dressed and dangerous sexual predator is on the prowl, according to police. The unidentified man is being called the "Well Dressed Groper." He has been roaming the city's streets and subways, touching women, and then running away.

The first of four recent incidents happened on Feb. 25 at East 62nd and Park. A 33-year-old woman was approached from behind, and then grabbed on her inner thigh, police said.

Most recently, a 22-year-old woman was touched between her legs, inside the Chambers and Center Street subway station near city hall, police said.

Women told CBS 2's Derricke Dennis that they don't condone the unwelcome touching.

"I don't know, it doesn't matter, everybody has to respect people here," said Arianna Rojas of Washington Heights.

One Australian tourist told Dennis that she planned on confronting the groper if he tried to touch her.

"I actually usually confront the person who's behind it, just to call them out, because sometimes they don't seem like they're used to confrontation," said Rosie Vlahos.

Police do not recommend confronting the attacker. Anybody with information regarding the groping is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website, or by texting their tips to 274637 and then entering TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.
