NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – By now, most folks are accustomed to using Google maps, and know how they changed the way we see – and navigate – the world around us.

A New York City startup, however, is trying to get people to change the way they see Manhattan.

CNET’s Sree Sreenivasan stopped by CBS 2 to discuss whether the world needs another map, and what its advantages might be.

Sreenivasan calls a “different way of seeing the city.” What makes different is that shops and more are indicated on the map via their brand’s easily identifiable logo. Sreenivasan calls that “a different way of seeing your neighborhood.”

The site also offers their maps as an iPhone app, Sreenivasan explained. The app allows filtering of results, so you can see restaurants, or places to shop and so forth. Best of all, the “NYC MAP” app is free.

Sreenivasan explained that tourists and non-English speakers may particularly benefit from using the map.
