NYC’s ‘Snackman’ Speaks Out About New Superhero Status
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Gotham’s newest superhero doubles as a mild-mannered junk food eater. He’s being called “Snackman” after a cell phone camera caught him breaking up a fight on a subway a few weeks ago.
1010 WINS’ John Montone reports
Video of a brawl between a man and woman that broke out on an uptown 6 train was posted to YouTube April 2.
In the video, fists and kicks were flying until out of nowhere with chips in hand, “Snackman” who is better known as Charles Sonder, appeared to save the day.
“I was a little bit larger than both of them,” Sonder told CBS 2’s Hazel Sanchez. “I didn’t think they were going to attack me, so I thought if I got between them, they would just stop hitting each other and maybe just defuse the situation a little bit.”
The 24-year-old architect literally stepped into superhero status, his “snackticts” stopping the fight instantly.
“I guess it’s cool to be thought of as some kind of superhero. I just didn’t want to see anyone get hurt,” he said. “I didn’t stop eating chips while I was doing it, so we had a little laugh afterwards.”
The YouTube video went viral. Fans have named him “Snackman” and even created a Facebook fan page and produced a video with his own theme song.
Sonder the “Snackman” says he’ll be riding the rails as usual and with no doubt, he’d defend the citizens of Gotham again.
“Watch out for ‘Snackman’ I guess,” he said.
Sonder says he’s excited about the “Snackman” following, but says the best part of his new-found fame is hearing his family say they’re proud of him.
