NEW YORK (WFAN) — The Yankees have heated up after three straight losses to start the season.
It hasn’t been the same for the meat of the Bombers’ lineup. Sluggers Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez are still ice-cold.
“It’s been a small sample,” said A-Rod. “We have done some things well and there are some things that we could do better.”
With only one RBI between them over six games, A-Rod and Teixeira are still waiting to send their first ball out of the park.
Teixeira has five hits in 25 at-bats, good — or not so good — for a .200 average. A-Rod, meanwhile, has dipped below the Mendoza Line at .174.
“(A-Rod’s) bat didn’t look all that quick by any means. I know the last two nights were brutal to play in but it looked like he was cheating a little bit,” one scout told the New York Post. “There is no coverage away, and he used to drive the ball that way.”
The Bombers will open up Yankee Stadium on Friday against the Angels, who have a slow-starting slugger of their own.
Albert Pujols, fresh off his 10-year, $240 million deal with Los Angeles, is batting just .217 with two RBIs and no home runs.
“This is nothing different,” said Pujols. “I’m able to play interleague, I have probably about 70 some games interleague, so it’s nothing different. Just getting to adjust to the league, but the game is still the same. Nothing changed.”
