Salmonella Scare Affects 24 New Yorkers As Yellowfin Tuna Is Recalled

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Do you have any spicy tuna sushi in the fridge?  Well beware, because there's a big salmonella scare.

116 people nationwide -- 24 in New York -- have gotten salmonella after eating sushi, including nine in Suffolk County and two in Nassau County. Seven cases have also been reported in New Jersey and five in Connecticut.

The FDA says that many were infected after eating spicy tuna sushi, but yellowfin tuna may also have gone into ceviche, sashimi or other raw dishes.

Moon Marina USA is voluntarily recalling nearly 59,000 pounds of the frozen raw yellowfin tuna. Officials say it's hard to be sure where it ended up because it's often broken down into smaller lots and passed through several distributors.

The feds said they're working with the Centers for Disease Control and state and local officials to investigate the outbreak.
