NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The FBI and NYPD are tight-lipped on anything they may have found  in the SoHo building suspected of hiding the remains of Etan Patz.

Investigators have been methodical, taking apart the basement concrete floor piece by piece and digging through the dirt below for evidence. They have also torn down brick walls in their search for clues to the 1979 disappearance of Patz.

On Saturday, sources reported that investigators discovered what they described as a suspicious stain on a concrete wall while tearing apart the basement. However, the FBI won’t conform those reports, and said that Sunday will be a painstaking process. So far, investigators have gone through about 50 percent of the dirt.

With the current search once again bringing attention to the three decades-old case, Etan’s mother, Julie, and her husband have pleaded for privacy.

Convicted pedophile Jose Ramos, long considered the prime suspect by the family, has repeatedly denied that he killed Patz.

The FBI and NYPD say that handyman Othniel Miller is now a person of interest, and he’s hired a lawyer. It’s Miller’s former basement workshop that investigators have torn apart.

The FBI is not commenting on several published reports that Miller’s ex-wife may have accused him of abusing a child, which prompted this investigation.

Longtime SoHo residents have seen this case run hot and cold over the past three decades, and they’re hoping that the current investigation yields something.

“For them, I hope that they find him so that they can have a good burial, and have some closure for the family,” SoHo resident Lauraine Deppe told CBS 2.
