Suspect Arrested In Connection With Shooting Of Sudanese Diplomat's Wife In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Queens high school student has been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured the wife of a Sudanese diplomat.
Mawahib Elbahi, whose husband is a diplomat at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of the Sudan at the United Nations, was with her two young children outside their Astoria apartment building on Tuesday when a bullet struck her in the upper arm.
The mother was caught in the cross-fire during a shootout between rival groups, police said.
The 19-year-old suspect, Miguel Mata, is a student at Long Island City High School.
He's being charged with attempted murder.
