Bloomberg Touts Jobs, Growth & Tax Revenue To Be Created By Barclays Center
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- With hard hats hammering away, getting the place ready for the September opening, Mayor Michael Bloomberg took a tour of the Barclays Center Thursday and proclaimed it a world-class arena.
Bloomberg joined Forest City Ratner Companies Chairman and CEO Bruce Ratner to announce a plan to put about 2,000 people to work at the new home of the Brooklyn Nets.

"We're gonna make sure that the men and women who live in the Brooklyn communities closest to this new arena have the opportunity to apply for those jobs," Bloomberg said.
The mayor said that the new arena means more jobs, economic growth and more tax revenue.
"We're not just putting up a help wanted sign beginning next week, we are actually gonna go into neighborhoods to actively recruit candidates to fill approximately 2,000 jobs," Bloomberg said.
Barclays will play host to major concerts, hockey games and fashion shows soon after it opens.
Jay-Z will christen the building on September 28. A preseason match-up between the New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils on October 2 will mark the first major sporting event at the new venue.
