NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A stabbing on a Bronx subway platform before the sun came up on Saturday morning has left a teenager critically hurt.

The fight broke out on the elevated train platform at Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue. A 19-year-old was stabbed numerous times in his face and chest, leaving a trail of blood on the platform. The stabber got away.

 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reported

Police said the victim and a friend had fallen asleep aboard a 4 Train, and when they got up they noticed that the victim’s cell phone had been stolen. On the platform they spotted the suspect carrying the stolen phone and confronted him, police said, and that’s when the suspect pulled out a knife and attacked the victim.

One man who lives in the neighborhood told 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria that that’s what happens at 4:05 a.m.

“It was probably a quarrel over something stupid, like always,” he said. “Stepping on your toes, whatever.”

He and other local residents said that before dawn, drugs, booze and partying dictate people’s behavior.

“Most people around here are usually drinking or getting high on something,” another local added. “I’m not surprised.”

Strap-hangers told CBS 2’s Ann Mercogliano that the subway has become a dangerous place.

“My mom was like, don’t take the train anymore. But what are you going to do?” said one rider.

So far there has been no arrest made.
