Officials: Erosion May Force Closure Of Georgica Beach
EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Long stretches of East Hampton‘s Georgica Beach are gone, washed away by nature in some of the worst erosion in half a century, WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported.

The erosion is so bad that officials said they may have to be close the beach for the season, saying sand replenishment is not an option due to the high cost.
Residents told Xirinachs they’ve never seen it this bad.
Not everyone is upset, though. “Good for the surfers, bad for the people who enjoy the beach and want to bring their kids here,” one surfer told Xirinachs.
