NEW YORK (WFAN) – The Yankees have signed Cuban outfielder Adonis Garcia to a $400,000 contract, according to CBSSports.com and WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman.

The deal is for one year at the minor-league level, the Newark Star-Ledger reported.

There were several teams interested in the 26-year-old right-hander, who became a free agent in February. Undersized at 5-7 and 180 pounds, Garcia hit .270 this year in the Venezuelan Winter League, according to the Star-Ledger.

Also, the Yankees will call up infielder Jayson Nix from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to bolster their depleted bench, WFAN’s Sweeny Murti reported.

It’s unclear what the corresponding roster move will be to make room for Nix.
