NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) — A 12-year-old boy was killed by an electronic gate in Brownsville on Sunday.

Witnesses told 1010 WINS reporter Sonia Rincon that a group of children was playing with a sensor that controlled the gate. They said that Yakim McDaniels grabbed onto the gate as it was moving up, and that his clothing became stuck.

1010 WINS Reporter Sonia Rincon spoke with residents…

“It happened so fast, I had just seen him when he left out the house. Then somebody came upstairs and told me my son was dead, I couldn’t even hold him or do nothing,” said Doris Chase, the boy’s mother.

All that could be seen when the fire department arrived, were the boy’s legs. The fire department had to cut out a part of the gate to remove Yakim.

The Gate was part of a parking lot that belongs to part of a housing complex on Lott Avenue.

McDaniel was transported to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
