On Tuesday, voters will be asked to give the borough permission to exceed the two percent tax cap.

Money is tight there and the borough is also in talks to merge its police force with the Bergen County police department.

The cost saving of such a merger has not yet been calculated, but according to information on the borough website, the chief and all of the officers would keep their jobs.

Some residents are opposed the merger.

"I think it's a bad idea. I think that there are quality of life issues that are not going to be addressed by the simple math," resident Steve Shapiro told Adams. Shapiro wants a referendum on the issue.

Over 200 people who have signed a petition to that effect.

Do you support the idea of Demarest's police department merging into the county police department?
