70 Acts Vie For Spot In MTA's Music Under New York Program
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- From mariachi bands to brass quartets, 70 acts auditioned at Grand Central Terminal on Wednesday for a coveted spot in the MTA's Music Under New York program.
Each act was given five minutes to impress the judges, who will select up to 20 acts to join the MUNY roster which currently features more than 350 artists.

The acts were judged on quality, variety, and appropriateness for the mass transit environment.
"I think it's great culturally, I think we bring something different, I think it's an awesome experience for people in transit," a member of the Brooklyn reggae fusion band Red Stefan said.
Once the performers are chosen, they will bring music to 25 locations throughout the transit system. The artists are not paid by the MTA but can accept tips from the public.
"I appreciate it more when people come closer and clap," Paco Lopez, a singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, said.
The winners will be announced after Memorial Day.
