Transit Worker Struck By LIRR Train Near Hunterspoint Avenue Station
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A transit worker is in the hospital after being struck by a Long Island Rail Road train in Queens early Friday morning.
The worker was on the tracks and struck by an oncoming train around 3:45 a.m. near the Hunterspoint Avenue station, CBS 2's Kathryn Brown reports.
He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The train involved in the accident was moved out around 5:30 a.m.
Investigators are trying to determine if alarms that warn workers of oncoming trains sounded.
Commuters experienced delays between Jamaica and Penn Station in both directions following the accident.
The victim was working on part of an ongoing project to build a tunnel underneath the East River.
The investigation is ongoing.
