DA Releases Report On Nearly 100 Orthodox Jews Being Investigated For Sex Crimes
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes has released an expanded report on the nearly 100 members of the city's ultra-Orthodox Jewish community who have been investigated for alleged sex crimes.
43 of the 96 cases on the table are still pending, the New York Post reported.
The paper also said that many of the defendants either avoided stiff prison sentences or had the charges dropped altogether after the alleged victims refused to testify due to community pressure.
Recently, a rabbi was accused of molesting a teenage girl for several years. He denies it, and a community fundraiser was held last week to raise money for his defense.
