Female Rangers Fan Claims 3 Male Devils Fans Attacked Her After Game 3 At 'The Rock'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Rangers fan says she was attacked, spit on and hit by Devils fans on Saturday in the aftermath of the Blue Shirts' Game 3 win at the Prudential Center.

However, as CBS 2's John Slattery reported Monday, not everyone believes her story.

Stephanie Gorman may become a little more fashion conscious about wearing a Rangers jersey, because, she said Monday, it got her attacked by three Devils' fans.

"It was wrong. No man should ever lay a hand on a woman," Gorman told Slattery.

The 23-year-old fan was at "The Rock" Saturday when the Rangers beat the Devils 3-0 to take a 2-1 lead in their Eastern Conference Finals series.

As she and her boyfriend were exiting on an elevator, chanting with other Ranger fans, she said three men in Devils jerseys attacked her.

"The one guy spit at me, all over my face and jersey. Another guy pushed me and right after that, a third guy grabbed me around the neck and pushed me, very hard," Gorman said.

Gorman said she suffered bruises on her neck, on her arm and on her legs.

"I was shaken up, crying, hyperventilating," Gorman said.

She also said security people from the arena did nothing.

"They're yelling in my face, if I don't calm down, they're gonna call police," Gorman said.

Jim Crann, the director of security at the Prudential Center, said: "Witnesses said the woman was aggressive, combative and was being restrained by her male companion. She appeared to have been drinking."

When asked if she had been drinking, Gorman said, "I had a few beers, three." When asked if she was drunk, Gorman said no and added she didn't say anything to them and was not in any way abusive.

Prudential Center officials said surveillance tape of the area is being looked at in the hope of identifying suspects.

Game 4 of the series is on Monday night, also in Newark. Will more fans and more jerseys equal more alleged assaults?

The Prudential Center had violent assaults after a concert last week, and in January an attack on a Rangers fan was captured on a cell phone in Philadelphia.
