NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The search is on for a hit-and-run driver who killed a woman in Manhattan early Thursday morning, police said.

The 21-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was struck around 1:30 a.m. while crossing Broadway at East 14th Street in Union Square, police said.

Responding officers found the victim unconscious and unresponsive. She was taken to Beth Israel Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police believe some kind of truck, perhaps a dump truck, struck the woman and then fled the scene.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
