Manager Terry Collins Confirms That Ike Davis Won't Be Sent Down To Triple-A Buffalo
NEW YORK (WFAN) - Mets first baseman Ike Davis has been in a devastating slump since the start of the 2012 season, but he hasn't hit rock-bottom just yet.
No, he hasn't been told to head north to Buffalo. And it appears that it will stay that way.
Prior to the Mets' series opener against the Padres on Thursday night, the one-time slugger informed reporters that, according to manager Terry Collins, he will not be demoted to the Minor Leagues.
Now if the 25-year-old begins a 1-for-30 streak tonight, it's safe to say that Collins could reconsider his decision. But for now, the Minnesota native is in Queens to stay.
An almost unthinkable proposition when the season began, there has been speculation that Davis could be sent down to Triple-A over the last few weeks, and Collins even suggested that it was a possibility a few days ago.
The current team leader in home runs with five, Davis is batting just .159 with a .213 on-base percentage. He has also struck out an alarming 44 times to just 10 walks.
