WALLACE, N.C. (CBSNewYork) — Police have arrested a suspect in North Carolina in connection with shooting that killed a 9-year-old Yonkers boy who vacationing with his family.

Relatives of 9-year-old Leon Albe Halley III said they were all sitting in the living room of a family friend Saturday afternoon when two bullets went through the house.

That’s when Leon, who was playing video games, suddenly collapsed.

“He was gone. The shot just took him and he laid there and he was gone,” said his mother LaTanya Turner Halley.

Leon was killed in what police are calling a drive-by shooting.

“It involves a long-running kind of feud amongst different factions, but the victim was not the intended target. We do know that. He just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Wallace Chief of Police Bobby Maready.

Police have arrested Meshan Kentay Macmillian on first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon charges.

The Halleys, however, are just wondering why this senseless act had to happen.

“Just a typical 9-year-old kid enjoying life and it was cut short,” said his father Leon Halley Jr.

“I know he’s in Heaven looking down on us right now,” said his mother.

Maready said Macmillian wasn’t acting alone and that more arrests will likely follow.
