Long Beach Police Investigate After Allegria Hotel Guest Says She Was Raped

LONG BEACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Long Island are investigating a disturbing rape allegation at a popular beachfront night spot.

Guests and staff at the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach said they didn't notice anything out of the ordinary last Friday, but a female registered guest -- around 30 years old -- notified security around 4 a.m., saying she was raped in a hotel room.

Long Beach Police confirmed a complaint of an alleged rape at the hotel.

"We've executed a search warrant, detectives have done extensive interviews with the staff and patrons at the hotel," Sgt. Eric Cregeen told CBS 2's Carolyn Gusoff.

"They took what they needed from the hotel to conduct their investigation off-site. At this point, we're just waiting to hear from them and...we are fully cooperating," said Mike Witte, the hotel's general manager.

The hotel turned over surveillance video, which according to one law enforcement source, showed eight men going in and out of the room in question. According to the same source, the woman claimed she was given a date rape drug.

Guests said the posh hotel has very visible security.

"They ask questions so they know who's coming in and who is not supposed to be here," one woman said.

"I don't think really the location can decide a factor like that. I feel people are ... there's are all sorts of shades of grey when it comes to people," one man said.

Summer is high season for the hotel, but Allegria management said it's patiently waiting for a resolution.

"I would rather they take a little bit longer to get the right outcome rather than rush to judgment," Witte said.

Sources said any arrests in the case could take some time because DNA testing does not yield immediate results. Sources also said police are reviewing surveillance tapes to try to identify any suspects.
