Testimony Continues In Lawsuit Against NYC Livery Street Hail Plan
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Manhattan Supreme Court will hear more testimony Friday in a lawsuit aimed at stopping Mayor Michael Bloomberg's outer-borough livery cab plan.
The plan allows livery cabs to pick up passengers in upper Manhattan and anywhere in the four other boroughs. It's set to begin on Monday.
Taxi drivers and owners filed the suit, arguing that they've been given the exclusive right to pick up street hails. The city has said the plan won't impact taxi drivers, since they rarely pick up passengers in those areas.
Earlier this week, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio filed a brief supporting the lawsuit, saying the mayor exceeded his authority by issuing the new medallions to livery cabs.
