'Stay Alive' CPR Events Take Place Across New York City

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's a practical take on 'Stayin' Alive.'

A series of events are taking place in the city this week to kick off the American Heart Association's multi-city CPR awareness and education tour.

The week's launch is set to take place on Tuesday on the corner of 6th Ave and 43rd Street. New Yorkers will have the opportunity to learn lifesaving Hands-Only CPR (no breaths, just chest compressions) to the beat of the disco classic 'Stayin' Alive.'

Teams of certified trainers will be on-site throughout the day, educating attendees on proper Hands-Only CPR technique.

Actress Jennifer Coolidge - best known in recent years as Elle Woods' bend-and-snap best friend in Legally Blonde and Stifler's Mom in American Pie - will also be on hand.

A new state-of-the-art interactive CPR mobile unit will be unveiled at the event and is scheduled to visit at least 24 cities over the next three years.

On Wednesday, there will be open public trainings at One Liberty Plaza (Liberty St. & Broadway across from Zuccotti Park) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Thursday, there will be open public trainings at Grand Central Terminal's Vanderbilt Hall from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
