NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) — The country’s top pit masters made their way to Midtown on Saturday and Sunday for the 10th Annual BBQ Block Party in Madison Square Park.
Ed Mitchell from The Pit in North Carolina told CBS 2’s Rachel Stockman that the key to good barbecue is using the best meat possible.
“The number one tip for barbecuing is making sure you start with the best products, and that is the whole hog,” he said.
And Ash Fulk from Hill Country Barbecue in New York filled CBS 2 in on the secret to getting the perfect smoky flavor.
“It’s about slow and low. Keeping the smoker closed and letting it get its smoke flavor,” he said.
Thousands showed up for the event and put that advice to the test, filling up plate after plate, as they sampled barbecue from around the country.
