Boy Injured In Horrific LI Crash Given VIP Tour Of Yankee Stadium

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The 11-year-old survivor of a horrific crash on the Long Island Expressway smiled as he took a VIP tour of Yankee Stadium on Sunday.

Gabe Larsen's arm is in a sling, a reminder of the crash that killed a cab driver and his grandmother last week.

His parents, Dean and Jaime, told CBS 2's Dave Carlin that when Gabe drifted back into consciousness he asked them about the New York Yankees.

"With the tragedy it's a horrific week we've had, but this day has made it a lot better for his emotions," said Gabe.

The Larsens used the trip to Yankee Stadium as a chance to honor the memory of Gabe's grandmother Suzi Nicolson, who was killed in the crash.

"I want to thank the city of New York, especially the Yankees. These guys went way out of their way to help us out. Plus other people here at the hospital, everybody was so kind to us," said Dean.

Before returning to Utah, the family plans to visit the Museum Of Natural History and the Statue Of Liberty.
