John Smoltz was on record saying he would never write a book.

Then lo and behold the future Hall of Famer made a visit to the Allstate Studio this morning to promote his new book aptly titled, ‘John Smoltz – Starting and Closing – with Don Yaeger.’

Smoltz was more than happy to tell the guys why he changed mind and what makes his book different.  He talked about making the transition from being a dominant starter to a dominant closer and everything in between.

He talked about his regrets, why he loved coming to New York to play, winning a World Series and having his number retired.  Smoltz offered his take on both the Mets & Yankees and answered the burning question — ‘what are ya’ benching’ — before saying goodbye…
