Police: Suspect Sexually Assaulted 15-Year-Old At Fort Hamilton Subway Station

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A sex assault suspect is still on the loose after an incident involving a teen in the Fort Hamilton section of Brooklyn.

The suspect approached a 15-year-old girl at the Fort Hamilton N subway station from behind and sexually assaulted her around 5 p.m. on May 31, police said.

The perpetrator -- described as a Hispanic man between 20 and 25 with a Mohawk-style haircut -- fled the scene after grabbing the teen under her skirt, police said.

"That takes a lot of audacity right there," Borough Park resident Chris Santana told CBS 2's Dave Carlin on Wednesday night.

Others also expressed similar sentiments, calling what happened "sickening," among other things.

"It's completely crowded here. This is a really, really busy train station and usually everyone's coming home from work at that time and for him to even think of doing that I can't believe it," Jessie Harrison said.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black t-shirt with white and grey lettering, white- and dark-colored striped shorts and black sneakers.

The two enhanced and very clear photos from the surveillance system has given police and the public hope that they'll soon catch the suspect.

"I think a lot of people recognize him if they see him," Diana Luong said.

Anyone with information regarding the identity and whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

All calls are strictly confidential.
