Police: Josue Bonilla Beats Alzheimer's Patient Into Coma, Robs Him

NEW CASSEL, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Nassau County Police say they have arrested a man suspected of robbing an Alzheimer's patient and beating him into a coma.

The incident took place at around 8:45 p.m. on April 28.

That's when police say Josue Bonilla, 23, knocked a 68-year-old Hispanic man down and kicked him in the head and body.

"His dentures were broken and forced from his mouth, he was repeatedly punched, kicked with a boot in his face, back, chest, rendering him unconscious," Det. Lt. Ray Cote told 1010 WINS.

Police say Bonilla then went through the victim's pockets.

The victim suffers from dementia and Alzheimer's disease and has been in a coma since the attack.

Cote said Bonilla targeted the victim because of his age.

Bonilla, who lives in New Cassel, is charged with Robbery 1st degree and Assault 1st degree. He's being arraigned today at First District Court in Hempstead.
