Suffolk Police Accuse Central Islip Woman Of DWI With Her 5-Year-Old In The Car

YAPHANK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Suffolk County police say a Central Islip woman was intoxicated when she crashed her car with her young son in it in Bohemia.

Police say Veronica Austin, 22, was driving her Chevrolet Trailblazer on Sunrise Highway North Service Road at around 11:15 p.m. last night when she crashed west of Pond Road.

Police say Austin had her 5-year-old son in the vehicle with her. The boy was suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

Austin faces Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated With a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger, DWI based on a previous conviction in 10 Years, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana charges.

Austin is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Central Islip.
