Elderly Bronx Woman Found Brutally Beaten To Death In Her Apartment Building

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- An eighty-eight-year-old woman was found brutally beaten to death in her Bronx apartment on Saturday.

Neighbors told CBS 2's Dave Carlin that they are still in shock over the death of Evelyn Shapiro who was found by a relative and pronounced dead at the scene.

"I'm feeling it, I'm feeling it. She was a good neighbor, she didn't mess with anybody," said Marilyn Delgado.

Shapiro was found with groceries scattered around her, the cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz called her a "pillar of the community."

"Anyone who could so brutally take the life of an 88-year-old woman is a monster, has no place in our society, and the sooner they are off of our streets, the better," he said.

1010 WINS reporter Gary Baumgarten was in the Bronx...
