Off-Duty Clifton Cop Arrested After Pa. Standoff

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- An off-duty Clifton, New Jersey police officer has been arrested on 13 counts of attempted homicide following a 10-hour standoff in which he opened fire with a high-powered rifle.

Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what sparked the standoff in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

Cops arrived at a home owned by the officer's estranged wife Sunday afternoon after a neighbor reported a disturbance. Police said 42-year-old Richard Klementovich barricaded himself inside and started shooting.

Authorities said officers were under fire as soon as they arrived and had to evacuate nearby residences. One officer suffered minor injuries from shrapnel.

Klementovich surrendered just before midnight.

He was arraigned early Monday on dozens of charges including aggravated assault.
