L.I. 'Hot Dog Hooker' Cathy Scalia Sentenced To 7 Days In Jail

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Long Island's so-called "hot dog hooker" walked out of court Monday after being sentenced to seven days in jail.

Wearing a bikini top under her clothes, Cathy Scalia was processed and released from the courthouse for time served and was not sent back to jail.

"I don't see anything illegal," she told CBS 2's Carolyn Gusoff. "You want to charge me with prostitution -- I don't care. I'm out of the playboy mansion and in the real world."

Scalia spent five days behind bars last month after pleading guilty to prostitution, allegedly for selling sex out of the back of her hot dog truck in Baldwin.

She was arrested after an undercover cop visited her hot dog truck and asked her to perform a sex act, police said.

But Scalia has denied that she sold sex to the police officer and said he only got a lap dance before police arrived at the scene and arrested her.

Scalia has insisted she did nothing illegal. She said she is just selling hot dogs and snacks and then offers up her services as a stripper to anyone who is interested.

But despite the publicity, the 45-year-old East Rockaway woman said Monday that her case has been bad for business.

"It's beautiful out there and now all the hot dogs are on sale, all the rolls, this is prime time and I'm sitting in court," she told 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera.

Scalia had some support from court onlookers.

"I wish her well," one woman said. "It's not like she's a criminal or anything. We all make mistakes and go on with our lives."

Scalia said she plans on moving her hot dog truck to Oceanside while she tries to get a peddler's license.

"I'm finding one little spot in an industrial area. To the mothers and children out there, I will be selling the hot dogs in my bikini. To all the guys I'm gonna wiggle those weiners, we're gonna have a good time," she told CBS 2's Gusoff.
