NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) – Despite the heat, American Idol hopefuls lined up outside on Thursday morning to register for the show’s auditions.
Withstanding 90 degree temperatures with a real feel of 110 degrees, crowds assembled in front of Newark’s Prudential Center in anticipation of Saturday’s auditions.
By mid morning the line had disappeared as organizers moved the aspiring contestants into the air-conditioned arena for the registration process.
Authorities said they are preparing for the arrival of an estimated 15,000 contestants by Saturday.
Traffic in the area will be detoured through Saturday, Newark officials announced via Twitter.
Temperatures are expected to drop down to the mid-80s for Saturday’s auditions.
