Bear Stops By Back Yard Pool In Morristown To Cool Off

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - The heat is really unbearable.

At around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, Anne Krineski Joyce was making meatballs for that evening's dinner. She was in the kitchen with her three kids, Lara, 12, James, 9, and 6-year-old Justin.

"We were all in our kitchen and my 12-year-old daughter said 'Mom, there's a bear in the back yard,'" Joyce told CBSNewYork.com.

Joyce said she called 911 right away.

"We're in a residential area. The fact that we saw one, it was shocking," Joyce said.

Apparently the bear was just trying to cool off.

"He dipped his head in the pool, he took a couple of drinks," Joyce said. "I don't think he liked the chlorinated water. He cooled off, then he went away."

"My 9-year-old was the smart one, taking the picture," she said. "I was talking to the police and he grabbed the camera."

The police showed up quickly, but by then the bear had disappeared.

"I actually don't plan on letting my kids out in the back yard without adult supervision anymore," Joyce said.

Of course, they're still enjoying the pool.

"It was 90 degrees, they were in the pool all day yesterday."
