Lisa Kerney is a CBS 2 News This Morning’s sports anchor and co-host of Live From The Couch. She joined the station in January 2012.
One of the first stories Kerney covered at CBS 2 was the Giants’ appearance in Super Bowl XLVI, including the team’s victory parade down Manhattan’s Canyon of Heroes.
Before CBS 2, Kerney spent a year as a reporter for MLB Network. Among her favorite assignments there was covering Spring Training in Florida and feeling each team’s hope for the upcoming season. She also enjoyed that the length of time and more relaxed atmosphere allowed the players to open up and share personal expectations.
Previously, Kerney spent five years in Seattle at KING-TV, where she served as a weekend sports anchor and weekday sports reporter. She covered the 2005-2006 Seahawks’ run through the playoffs that ended in the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance. “The sheer excitement and explosive energy on the field after the Seahawks won the NFC Championship still gives me the chills,” she says. “A truly unbelievable moment amidst an equally magical season.”
Kerney began her broadcasting career as sports director at the KXLF-TV, the CBS affiliate in Butte, Montana. There she was the top choice for “Best Sports Reporter” and “Best TV Personality” in the Montana Standard’s 2005 People’s Choice Awards.
A basketball scholarship recipient, Kerney graduated from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida, where she received a bachelor’s degree in communications. She was captain of the school’s basketball team in both her junior and senior years and was named scholar athlete of the year in her senior year.
The Overland Park, Kansas native now lives in Connecticut with her husband, daughter and yellow lab. In her spare time, Kerney enjoys working out, cooking and baking, and spending time with her family.
