Burglars Allegedly Steal Hundreds Of Thousands Worth Of Merchandise From Bergdorf Goodman

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - They were long gone by the time the police arrived.

That's what sources told the New York Post about a crew of alleged brazen burglars who broke into Bergdorf Goodman on West 58th Street on Friday.

And this didn't appear to be a thief-in-the-night kind of caper.

Security video confirmed that as one alleged burglar served as a shield from the eyes of passersby, a hammer-wielding second one busted through the glass front door. Video showed that he then made a mad dash towards the jewelry cases, bashed them in and proceeded to grab some pricey loot. He then allegedly made a hasty retreat out the same hole in the same glass door and walked over to a getaway car, getting away unscathed.

Sources told CBS 2 that the thieves made off with about $50-thousand worth of Paul Morelli jewelry.

Shoppers on 5th Ave offered their own theories to CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez.

"It could be an inside job. To get away with that much goods," said Marvin Rodriguez, of Clifton, NJ.

Police have not released a description of the suspects or the getaway car.

It's very uncommon for such a high-end store to get burglarized like that, isn't it? Share your thoughts and comments in the section below...
