NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Dozens of people have been taken to the hospital following an accident involving a Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus, gasoline tanker and box truck in Harlem.

The crash occurred Tuesday afternoon at 125th Street and Fifth Avenue when the box truck tried to squeeze between the BX 15 bus, which was at the curb, and tanker, which was in the left lane heading eastbound, officials said.

The truck became wedged between the two vehicles and ripped apart on the left side, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported.

Fortunately, the tanker had just completed a delivery and was empty, preventing the risk of a fire or explosion, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.

Dozens were injured and several were hospitalized, Haskell reported.

None of the injuries appeared to be serious, Jones reported.

Police closed all lanes of 125th Street at Fifth Avenue for several hours.
